Greetings!

"The difference of six times a number and 7 is -49"...

In number and variables, this would be:

6x-7=-49

Add 7 to both sides.

(6x-7)+7=(-49)+7
Simplify.

6x=-42
Divide both sides by 6.

(6x)/6=(-42)/6
Simplify.

x=-7

Hope this helps.
