For stock A, the equation is y=15.54+0.11x where x is the number of hours.
For stock B, the equation is y=16.04-0.09x where x is the number of hours.

We're trying to find when they will be equal.
15.54+0.11x=16.04-0.09x
1554+11x=1604-9x
1554+20x=1604
20x=50
x=2.5

Final answer: About 2.5 hours

let number of hours = x

1st equation is 15.54+0.11x

2nd equation is 16.14-0.09x

now calulate x so the 2 equations are equal:

15.54+0.11x=16.04-0.09x

mutiply evrything by 100 to get rid of the decimal points andmake the calculations a little easier

1554+11x=1604-9x

add 9 x to both sides:
1554+20x=1604

subtract 1554 from both sides:
20x=50

divide 50 by 20 for x
x=50/20 = 2.5

x = 2.5

so they were the same after 2.5 hours
