He wanted to help them. He was very racist toward blacks rhogigrr

His overall philosophy was; "I'm the President & You're Not. I'm doing what I think is Best for the Country- and you don't have to like it. " ! Johnson didn't "pull any punches", & he had NO PROBLEM strong arming people- to get what he wanted. He could be crude- and almost harsh... But He was ALWAYS surprisingly "fair" & thoughtful...-particularly to those he felt were at a Social Disadvantage, like the Poor. As Presidents go, He did his Job, -& the Country reflects it today. :)
