In Europe, gender difference was explained by the various Christian Churches through the Book of Genesis, and reinforced through the power structures where men were the sole legal inheritors, land holders etc. However, elsewhere, similar creation mythologies also reinforced the idea of stark gender difference and entrenched societal disenfranchisement.
