His ship landed on an Island we now today know as the Bahamas. Back then he named it San Salvador or in easier terms. Holy Saviour.

When Columbus made his first expedition in 1492 on his quest to reach Asia (Japan), the ship landed at an island in the archipelago now known as the Bahamas. Mistakenly supposing he had reached the 'Indies' (Asia), he named theisland San Salvador or Holy Saviour.
