Inflammation is a response to injury that occurs in complex organisms. The response occurs when healthy tissue is damaged and the composition of the tissue is changed during this response. The blood flow is altered and white blood cells also migrate to the site of inflammation. All of this is done to prevent pathogens from entering the body and causing an infection and also to increase the rate of healing of the wound.
