The first cash crop grown in the Americas was Tobacco. It is a product prepared from the leaves of the tobacco plant by curing them. The plant is part of the genus Nicotiana and of the Solanaceae (nightshade) family. During the arrival of the Europeans to the Americas, tobacco became increasingly popular as a trade item.And,thus this was the reason Tobacco became the first cash crop grown in the America.
