Let Cody be x years old now. and y be Evan's age now.
x = 2y
x -7 + y - 7 = 10
x + y = 24
Substitute for x = 2y:-
2y + y = 24
y = 8
and therefore
x = 2*8 = 16
Answer is Cody is now 16 and Evan is 8
