To permit an ethnically and religiously diverse group to develop. To produce a body of likeminded religious followers centered around a church meeting house. The Puritans were a limb of the Church of England who had many goals. The Puritans were Protestant reformers who emanate in England. Later they extend to the American colonies of New England. Their goal was to "purge" religion and politics of corruption. They were first called Puritans by their adversary. But eventually they assumed the name for themselves as a crest of honor.
