Is there a difference between (-1)^2 vs. -1^2 ?

well one would really come out as a positive(+) number and the other would come out as a negative(-) number

(-1)^(2) = 1 and
-1^(2) = -1

The (-1)^2 means the your multiplying the understood one (-1^1)2 so it's actually like that and then -1^2 is -1*-1
