These methods require that we look at the data presented (or found) and try to understand the mechanisms behind why the data was so. In addition, the methods sometimes require novel approaches that might not have been tried in the past to find answers to current questions. Third, the scientific method requires that we be able to devise tests that are repeatable by other people wanting to find the same answers that we have currently devised.
