Why is the human fish called the human fish?

It's called the human fish because of it's skin coloration. It's very fleshy and human-like.

The Human Fish has the scientific name of Proteus. It has HUMAN-looking skin but otherwise there is no resemblance. Human and fishes share many developmental pathways, organ systems, and more which is why the human fish is called the human fish.
