Intraplate volcanism is igneous activity that occurs away from plate margins.

Intraplate volcanism is the volcanic activity that takes place within a tectonic plate far away from plate margins/ boundaries. Volcanic activity usually takes place at plate margins but some exceptionally active ones (such as intraplate volcanism) also occur within a plate. Most intraplate volcanism are thought to occur due to large hot mantle plumes that rise gradually through the mantle by convection.

At plate boundaries is where mostly volcanic activity occurs. However there are also large number of volcanoes located within the plate. Intraplate volcanism are also commonly known as hot spots.
