Why do we have representative democracies these days

We have representative democracy because a direct democracy in a large country with millions of people would just be silly. Could you imagine everyone having to go out and vote every time a new law was to be passed or a new state statute was trying to come into fruition?

We use representatives to smooth the process and by electing them ourselves we make sure that they will make decisions better suited to our interests and needs in our local areas.
