The steps below show the incomplete solution to find the value of n for the equation 4n – 2n + 4 = –1 + 17:

Step 1: 4n – 2n + 4 = –1 + 17

Step 2: 4n – 2n + 4 = 16

Step 3: 2n + 4 = 16

Which of these is most likely the next step? (5 points)

2n = 12
2n = 4
2n = 8
2n = 20

probably step 4 is minus 4 from both sides
so step 4: 2n=12

2(4z-9-7)=166-46
add like terms
2(4z-16)=120
divide by 2 both sides
4z-16=60
add 16 both sides
4z=76
divide by 4
z=19

For the first question 2n=12 because you have to isolate the variable and subtract 4 from both sides.

For the second one:
2(4z-9-7)=166-46
Distribute the 2 so you get:
8z-18-14=166-46
Combine like terms
8z-32=120
Add 32 to both sides and you get
8z=152
Divide both sides by 8 to get
z=19 is your answer

Hope this helped!
