an architect is designing a rectangular greenhouse. Along one walks is a 7-ft storage area and 5 sections for different kinds of plants. On the opposite wall is a 4-ft storage area and 6 sections for plants. Al of the sections for plants are of equal length. What is the length of each wall ?

Consider the provided information.

It is given that the length of each section of plants is equal.

Let the length of each plant is x.

Thus, the length of each side is 7-ft storage area and 5 sections for different kinds of plants. i.e.

Length of one side = 7 + 5x

Similarly, on the opposite wall is a 4-ft storage area and 6 sections for plants. i.e.

Length of opposite side = 4 + 6x

For better understanding refer the figure 1:

As we know in a rectangle opposite sides are equal, thus.

7 + 5x = 4 + 6x

Solve for x.

7 - 4 = 6x-5x

x = 3

Thus, the length of one side is:

7 + 5(3) = 7 + 15 = 22 ft

Hence, the length of each wall is 22 ft.

Note: it is not possible to find the length of other two wall as there is no information related with them.
