According to Freud's structural model or the topography of the mind, our human mind could likened to an iceberg. The visible part of the ice above sea level is the conscious part of the brain. The part just below the surface is the pre-conscious, while the deepest part of the iceberg is the unconscious. This houses all emotional urges and irrational thoughts and feelings. This is mainly housed in the ID component of personality. It is also called the primitive mind because it includes all the basic needs and feelings.
