Sequences that contain information about the stability of a transcripts are found in the 3 UTR sequence of mRNA. The 3 UTR is made up of binding sites for regulatory protein and also contain AU rich elements. Proteins usually bind to AU rich elements in order to affect the stability or decay rate of a transcript.
