Round 9.765 to the nearest tenth

9.8. The tenth place is the 2nd digit. In order to round, you have to check if the digit right after that is greater than, or equal to 5. If it's greater than or equal to 5, you make the number before that 1 higher. Example : 6.17 can be rolled up to 6.2. If lower than that, it'll just become 6.1. All other digits after 9.76 don't affect how it can be changed.

To round that number to the nearest tenth, which is the seven, you would need to either round the six up or down.

If you round up, the number you rounded was 5 or over.
If you round down, the number you rounded what under 5.

So, in this case, you would round the 7 up to an 8, because the 6 causes it to be rounded up.

The answer is 9.8
