Shipment of cattle from Texas to Chicago markets started in the late 1800's. A Chicago business leader, Joseph G. McCoy, built the first down town in this city near the railroad to gain the neighboring countries access from cattle shipment. Pens were placed alongside the railroad tracks in the wide streets to allow easy shipping and at the same time, it serves as an entertainment for Cowboys.
