Why did so many Native American peoples adopt Christianity in Latin America during the 1500s?

The correct answer is - The pope required that the Spanish monarchs make the conversion of native peoples to Christianity a priority during colonization.
So it wasn't really their choice - they were forcefully made to change their religion from the tribal, Native American gods they believed in, into the religion of Jesus Christ - a religion that was so strange and foreign to them, because it was brought by outsiders.
