2(5-4a)=-33

First, you need to distribute. Multiply the 2 by each number inside the parantheses.

(2*5) - (2*4a) = -33
10 - 8a = -33

Subtract 10 from both sides.
-8a = -43

Divide both sides by -8.
a = 43/8
