(4-2i) + ( 9 + 6i) =
4-2i + 9 + 6i=

13 + 4i

The importance here is to sum real number with real numbers and imaginary number with imaginary numbers. Do not mix them. Imaginary number is the number that has "i" next to it.

(4 - 2i) + (9 + 6i)

Do each part separately:

4 + 9 = 13

-2i + 6i = 4i

Combine into 13 + 4i

(4 - 2i) - (9 + 6i)

Apply the minus sign to the second parentheses:

4 - 2i - 9 - 6i

4 - 9 = -5

-2i - 6i = -8i

Combine into -5 - 8i
