What does a mildly dilated inferior vena cava mean? My echo report says that my inferior vena cava is mildly dilated, and that my aortic root diameter is 2.9 cm. Is that normal? I am a petite 5' woman. Thanks!

It pretty much means that the Major vein leading from the bottom of your body to the heart, is slightly dilated or wider. The aortic root is where the aorta meets up with the heart. Normally I'd say you're alright, though try to maintain a low salt diet to prevent hypertension.
