Why did chaucer have to be careful about how he wrote the canterbury tales?

Chaucer must be watchful how he composed the Canterbury Tales since he was parodying individuals from all kinds of different backgrounds, so he must make sure he was doing it in a way that would not affront anybody by and by. Chaucer's part in the Canterbury Tales is storyteller and artist explorer.
