In areas where physical geography made farming more difficult for British colonists, what else do you think they might have done for a living?

Since they couldn't focus on agriculture, they would focus on things like fishing or whaling or ship building. Some colonies focused on hunting and getting pelts that could be sold for clothes or taken to Europe for fancy outfits for the rich people who wanted leather and fur.
