The journey is broken down into five segment

Shop - first delivery =
12 (1)/(3) miles
First delivery - second delivery =
8 (3)/(4)
Second delivery - third delivery =
17 (2)/(8)
Third delivery - fourth delivery =
23 (2)/(3)
Fourth delivery - shop =
10 (5)/(10)

The average distance for each segment are:

[12 (1)/(3)+8 (3)/(4)+17 (2)/(8)+23 (2)/(3)+10 (5)/(10) ]÷
5


(145)/(2)÷5 =
