Explain what causes a change of state. Be sure to include what is happening with the molecules.

The closeness of molecules is what determines the substance's state of matter (Solid, Liquid, or Gas). When they are condensed and vibrate slowly, they are solids, when they move a bit freely, they are Liquid, and Gases have their molecules rapidly running around within their composition. Heat can impact the speed of molecules and is the main reason for this.

I'm not entirely clear on the meaning of your question, but if you meant state of matter, then temperature is what changes them into the different states of matter, for example, to turn water from a liquid into ice which is a solid, you lower the temperature and it freezes into ice. to turn water into a gas, you raise the temperature so it boils into a gas.
