Pillow basalts, shown below, attain their distinctive blob-like shapes because their parent lavas do not travel far prior to solidification.
This is because the parent lavas erupt under water and cools very quickly.
Pillow Basalts are volcanic fine grained igneous rocks and it forms when the lave which is basaltic in composition is erupted under the water.
