Mary Adelaide Nutting was not only an American nurse, she was also a known educator, historian, scholar, and a pioneer of in the hospital care field. She also contributed to the nursing education by writing nursing literature like A Sound Economic Basis for Nursing (co-authored with Lavinia Dock) and the first two volumes of History of Nursing, a four-volume series.
