The Supreme Court decision that ruled that state governments must respect some first amendment rights is the Bill of Rights. The First Amendment founded the four liberties: freedom of the press, freedom of speech, freedom of religion and freedom of assembly. These are the liberties that an individual or a group of people may obtain.
