The answer is called neocolonialism. It happens when multinational corporations gain hold or control over the poor country's economy through economic policies and agreements that extend itself to the country.
Politically, the government gets into an agreement to get the advantages in trade or loans from foreign companies. These agreements and a sense of control create an indirect rule or authority in economic decisions.
