What the formation of all macro molecules from their specific monomers have in common is CONDENSATION REACTION.

There are four major macro molecules in existence, these are carbohydrates, proteins, lipids and nucleic acids. Condensation is the basis for the syntheses of all these important microbiological macro molecules. Condensation is the process by which two monomers or molecules are joined together to form a more complex molecule accompany by a loss of water molecule. During condensation reaction, molecules that project hydrogen atoms are combine with those that project hydroxyl ion, this gives rise to the production of water molecules.

The formation of all macromolecules from their specific monomers involve hydrolysis process (i.e. involve the removal of a water molecule).
This water molecule is removed as H from one of the molecules and OH from the other. Hydrolysis process is done in each condensation (connection)

Example:
X + Y ---> X-Y + HOH
X-Y + Z ---> X-Y-Z + HOH
etc . . . .
