What effect did the Punic Wars have on Rome's military development

Rome would not suffer from the rival Carthage and would have control of Sicily and therefore controlling most of the trade in the Mediterranean sea.Rome would now have a boost in economy that would lead to bigger and more advanced troop battalions.
