Carbohydrates are one of the main types of nutrients, besides proteins and fats.
The major function of carbohydrates in the body is to provide the body's energy and fiber. The enzyme amylase break down carbohydrates into glucose (blood sugar) and that way gives energy to the brain and body. Carbohydrates can be found in two forms: simple and complex.
