Through a process called cellular differentiation, during development cells have specific genes which are turned on and off depending on their job function. At any time, cells will only have small amounts of DNA being used, the rest of the DNA is turned off. For example, muscle cells will have genes turned on to produce myosin, muscle fibers. Skin cells will have genes turned on to produce melanin and reproduce every twenty minutes.
