I think the answer would be peasant villages. Throughout the fifth and twelfth century, Europe was under a feudal system.  is categorized by hierarchies of which peasant villages is one of them. Peasant villages are the homes of many farmers and skilled workers. They offer their products and services to lords and in turn, these lords will protect them from invasion.
