henry clay's american system proposed improvements to transportation. how did theses changes impact trade among regions of the united states?

This sort of system helped build canals and roads which were very important not only to Trade but also to Transportation. It was this same sort of system which led to the building of the Erie Canal in 1825. Just as an FYI the Clay American was a VERY pro federalist system. He proposed tariffs(taxes) to build infrastructure and then as a result build Americas Economy. The Democratic Party almost all around was not very fond of this because it required a nation wide tariff taxing southerns who most likely would never get to utilize the roads since most of the infrastructure and industry was based out of the North.
