There are three steps involved in the transportation of water from atmosphere to cloud -

a) Water from atmosphere is received by earth in the form of precipitation such as rain , snow, hail etc, Thus, precipitation causes water from atmosphere to reach the earth.

b) In the evaporation phase water receives heat from sun and starts evaporating. Evaporation causes the liquid water (on earth) to convert into gaseous phase and rise to the atmosphere.

c) Once the water in gaseous form reaches the atmosphere, it starts condensing into cloud due to sudden fall down of temperature.
