Even though the Korean War is considered a tie, what objective did the US achieve?

The US achieved a country divided and separated into communist north and capitalist south and untold hardship for the families torn apart by the division between the two halves of what is historically one country. Unlike in Viet Nam where the US was defeated and the north and south united, the two countries are still divided to this day since 1953.
