Opportunities that became available through the completion of the transcontinental railroad?

It enabled many new things for commerce. For example, resources could more easily be brought to factories because trains could pull more and faster than before. Manufactured products could be sent further for selling because there would be less road hazards. People could establish new towns and cities around mines where they worked because they could go to large places with the railroad. The economy boomed because of it.
