y equals 2.5

4(-6) + 8y= -4
-24 + 8y + -4
+24 + 24
8y = 20
8y/8 = 20/8

y = 2.5

sub in -6 for all the x in the equation
4(-6)+8y=-4
-24+8y=-4
8y=-4 + 24
8y/8 = 20/8
y = 2.5
