Pre-construction and design specialists take an interdisciplinary approach so that they can better understand the methods of the construction team. If these specialists focused only on their discipline, their work would not encompass or consider factors and variables that would need their attention during the design phase. In this case, they would probably create very attractive designs on paper which may not be safe or feasible to build.
