Meconium aspiration occurs when a new born inhale amniotic fluid containing meconium, which is the baby first stool. In 10% of all births, new born sometimes passes stool into the amniotic fluid which mixes with the amniotic fluid and may be breathed into the air way of the new born causing respiratory distress. For the question above, the symptom which would most accurately indicate that a new born has experienced meconium aspiration is: MECONIUM STAINED FLUID FOLLOWED BY TACHYPNEA.
