What is the consequence of an economically troubled middle class?

The middle class is defined as one of the large portions of the societal hierarchy.In the US, the index of belonging to the middle class is that college education is at least being attained. this group is described as innovative and independent. When troubled, a large shift of the economic activities could happen including the stir in the economy and social behavior.
