Germany had two main governing bodies: The German Democratic Republic (GDR) and the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG). After the war, the economic status of Germany was a wreck. It was inconsistent with no tax systems to support the financial flow. The FRD wanted to have a joint solution for this and formed a reform with the introduction of the Deutsche Mark. The GDR was opposed to the idea and imposed the Berlin Blockade a day after the new currency was introduced in 1948.

In the late 1980s, the GDR began losing its power and the wall started to come down by 1989. In 1990, the German Democratic Republic (GDR) joined the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) reuniting the two as one German nation.
