How was world war 2 a turning point in history?

World War 2 showed what people were capable of. It also led to great advances in technology, such as the development of the atomic bomb. It inspired many to research and innovate more.

Why do you think? WW2 killed millions, lead to the formation of the EU and others. It lead to Germany being destroyed and rebuilt in half(Half of it was under American control and the other was under soviet). It caused the death of the United Kingdom. Its still a country, but when America joined the war, they went to Europe for all  (or most) of englands colonies. Need more reasons or did I spark a train of thought? Let me know
