± 1/2 (or ± 0.5)

Here's how I would do it:
0.25 = 25/100

√0.25 = √(25/100)
= √25/√100
= ± 5/10
= ± 1/2

You have to remember that there are two square roots to a number; the primary (positive) root, and the secondary (negative) root. So be sure to include the ± sign.

Answer:
-1/2 and 1/2
