Plug 5 into the equation. y(hat) = 2.5x - 1.5
y (hat) = 2.5(5) - 1.5
y (hat) = 12.5 - 1.5
y = 11
Resid = actual - predicted
Resid = 12 - 11
Resid = 1

Answer:

The residual for the point is 1.

Explanation:

We have been given a best fir line:

y=2.5 x -1.5

We have to find residual for the point (5,12)

To find residual value we will subtract predicted value from the value which is actual.

We will find the predicted from the given point so substitute x=5 in the given line which is:

y= 2.5 x -1.5

y=2.5(5) -1.5

y=12.5 -1.5

y=11

Hence, the predicted value is: 11

And actual value is 12

Hence,

Residual = actual - predicted

Residual = 12-11 =1

Hence, our required result is:1
