Do you write an abstract for every paper in apa format

No — you do not have to. Doing so is NOT mandated for a paper in APA format. APA (American Psychological Association) format is often used for writing in the following disciplines (nursing, business, social sciences, psychological).

Many times, there will be "no abstract required" by the professor/ instructor (save for graduate school research papers). Yet, the paper can still be properly written in "APA format".
